Contemplating my setup...

Update

Recently I've been wondering if I should ditch my laptop + dock for a mini-itx. My current setup doesn't look as polished as some, but that's not the real problem. The issue is the dock is pretty large. I have it hung in the trunk, but I'd like to put my Sanyo Security VCR in there soon for PVR. So together it's eating a lot of space.

My friend just ordered a VoomPC setup and it got me revisitng the laptop decision. Such a nice little form factor I could conceal in so many places. After much thinking, I think I'm going to try and revamp what I have. I'm thinking of trying to saw the dock in two and basically folding it over on itself. This would shave at least 10 inches off the depth. So the dock would sit under the laptop instead of behind it.

I haven't finished taking the dock apart. Hopefully it won't be too hard to reorient the connector. I imagine that's going to be the deal maker/breaker. Stay tuned.

Update
Don't think it's going to work out. I managed to get it apart, but can't see how I can reorient the connector. No luck trying to find a 240 pin cable (not suprised).

Luckily, I checked ebay first and still plenty of cheap docks left.

Maybe I'll just try and dump it for now. I want that VCR in there. With the USB PCMCIA 2.0 host, I don't terrible need it. Maybe I'll make the laptop permenant. Then I could mold the LCD in there somewhere.
